Light is "faster than a speeding bullet"
All good paintings begin with light, just
as the first words of Creation (in Hebrew) declare, "Let light be,
and light is."
We are daily thankful, in the words of St.
Francis of Assisi (fl.1220), "for Brother Sun, who brings us the
day and lends us his light."
"Light" in the English tongue is the opposite
of "heavy" as in the words of Jesus of Nazareth, "My yoke is
easy and my burden is light."
Each person is a prism, refracting the pure
light of Creation in a dazzling array of colors and hues.
Even the dark shades of a Rembrandt painting
only serve to illuminate the rugged beauty unveiled in the light
of a person's eyes.
"Do not leave my hand without light." (Marc
Chagall, 20th century artist)
Isn't it interesting that we leave the "city
lights" in order to gaze at the heavenly lights that shine above
us?
Our very notion of "time" is really the measure
of light's journey across the Universe.
