Flourishing
This month Charlie and I celebrate 42 years of marriage! Our grand adventure has included the births and nurturing of 3 wonderful children, 17 moves (yes, 17!), ministering and attending 12 churches, and serving in 8 academic institutions. Side by side we have faced joys and challenges, laughing and weeping, and always walking together. A favorite way of serving is for Charlie to preach, and while he preaches I paint. We bring the Bread of God’s Word with the delight of beauty for our brothers and sisters. We are a story of spontaneous contrast. This is a color theory term, describing the dynamic edge between 2 colors of equal intensity. We do make a great team! Last Sunday, March 6, Charlie preached in Destiny Church in Fort Lupton Colorado, where Pastor Rob and his dear wife Kim serve. The topic of Charlie’s message was flourishing, and to express the wonder of growth and thriving, I painted a Palisades peach orchard in full bloom. I had so much fun with this painting, using warm sunlit colors to bring the trees to life, while outdoors snow was falling. (That’s March along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains). What a gift from the Lord to bring His beauty, goodness, and truth to others.
