Day 2
Day 2 of the creation account is all about water. This overlaps with science as we consider the role water played in the cooling of the earth’s crust. Our newly formed planet was extremely hot, and as the surface was covered with water, some water evaporated, cooled, and formed clouds. This is the beginning of the water cycle, without which there would not be life on planet Earth. Genesis 1:6-8 says, “God said, ‘Let there by an expanse in the midst of the water, that it may separate water from water.’ God made the expanse, and it separated the water which was below the expanse from the water which was above the expanse. And it was so. God called the expanse Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.”
It amazes me that this ancient text describes the water cycle so very long ago. Science and Scripture agree on the tremendous importance of the water cycle, and how it started before any life is formed. Today I am filled with gratitude for the gentle rain that falls to the ground in my humble garden.
