Mary Blessing Elizabeth and Baby John
Oil on canvas, 18″x18″
This painting portrays 2 women of different generations from one family. I have always been touched by the deeply beautiful relationship between Mary and her relative Elizabeth. These holy mothers were rooted in God’s promises. In the wonder and mystery of their pregnancies, and in the delight of bearing their sons, they blessed one another with graceful hands and glorious words. Jesus and John were cousins, only 6 months apart. Did Mary and Elizabeth fully comprehend what their sons would do? Does any mother? It seems that a veil covers our eyes, and we can’t discern the future of our beloved children. That is for the Lord to reveal to them. We can bow our knees, and pray for God’s blessing to forever be upon our dear ones.
And so, as the last hours of 2020 quietly slide from our souls, I bow my heart and bend my knees in grateful prayer for all my dear ones. Your words of blessing and encouragement have carried me through a difficult season. I hug you all in my heart, and I pray that we will soon share bread around the table together. May the Lord Jesus cover you with His peace.
